Back to the old saddle!

November 29th, 2006 by fraix

Well, here I am, after a two months of hiatus in my Blogspot blog.
I did add a posting here… so nevertheless… here is how I am:

I am now back working with Young Life Indonesia.

My position, however, still leaves much to be desired.

My current tasks includes preparing a P321 alumni meeting this coming March ‘07, as well perform some research for YLI and the GetLife magazine.
The
good thing about these tasks is who I’m partnered with: I’ll be
coordinating P321 event with my friend Kirana, while the GetLife
research will be done with Sanny.

But believe me, the second job is more daunting than the first.

Anyway, here I am, back in YLI.

Watching Superman Returns in IMAX

October 28th, 2006 by fraix

Just watched Superman Returns for the second time.

Whereas the first time I pretty much enjoyed it watching at an ordinary theatre (at La Piazza 21, to be exact… where 21 is the monopolizing foreign films distributor) there were some drawbacks during my first viewing. First, there were some sound quality issues. To say the least, there were some crackles and noises during certain scenes. But I enjoyed the show, really.

This time however, I watched it at the largest movie screen in Indonesia, namely the Keong Emas IMAX theatre. For those who like to know, IMAX can be described as a ‘film format created by IMAX Corporation that has the capacity to display images of far greater size and resolution than conventional film display systems.’ I first came upon the news on a Koran Tempo edition while I was waiting for my dad’s colonscopy results a couple of weeks ago. The movie has been playing since early this week, and I’ve been anticipating the viewing for awhile. Sanny was pretty enthusiast about it too (gotta admit, Mr. Routh is really gorgeous for those women). But when I first found out the ticket price was quite… hmmm.. pricey (about the same rate as an XXI show) Sanny had to think thrice about it.

After some persuasion, added with the fact my sister and her brother haven’t saw Superman Returns yet, we agreed to go this Saturday. The planning and preparation was really something. My friend Yosie unfortunately had to cancel (she was going to watch with us too), and it was a bit too late to invite others (most of the people I’ve invited had already watched it during the regular run) so in the end just the four of us go.

Now, it’s been like a decade since I’ve last went to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, and I did took the wrong turn somewhere near Alburquerque (actually, somewhere right before Pondok Indah) and after finding the entrance to TMII, we took several wrong turns around Kalimantan Timur and passed Jogjakarta (inside TMII, not the actual provinces) we finally reached our destination half an hour before show starts.

Keong Emas was quite crowded, not to mention it’s the last day of the hoidays (why does this sentence sounds a bit redundan?) and after purchasing four tickets and preparing ourselves, we entered the IMAX theatre about five p.m. sharp.

The place is huge! According to the KeongEmas.com information (right in the Selayang section), 920 economy class seats (over 2000 according to a worker there, which) and 36 VIP seats. I noticed some people willing to pay Rp100,000 for that luxurious balcon settings. Of course, the regular seats was quite pack, with most people sitting in the upper center section.
The four of us settled in the left center seats arond middle row. Satisfying view.

Here’s my impression of my first IMAX experience since my childhood: The movie was incredible, especially the main titles… seeing Rao (Krypton’s red giant star) going nova and watching the credits zooming through various space scenes was incredibally breath-taking! The sound effecs was top notch (Digital Re-Mastering they say). The Bahasa Indonesia subtitles was interestingly projected by a different projecter in a very low part of the screen (I doubt the viewers in the upper rows can read it well), but I’m not complaining: Bahasa is my second language.

My only complain I can have is about the people watching it. I was anticipating kids expressing there awes and wonders of a movie, but I got something more. There was this one kid behind me that was reading out loud the Indonesian subtitles (oh please), and then there were cell phones ringing across several scenes (what happen to the courtesy of turning off your cell during a show, or at least switching it to vibrate). Worst of all was this one lady behind me whose cell rang for quite some time, and after arguing with her kid whether to answer it or not, she picked it up and talk rather loudly.

Anyway, here’s my conclusion: Watching an IMAX show is a really wonderful cinematic experience, which best done outside school holidays and vacation.

I’m not feeling comfortable

September 24th, 2006 by fraix

Well… I don’t if anyone is reading my rants here in this humble blog.

The fact that I’m cross posting my posts between here and blogspot doesn’t change the fact.

I have a blog, and I might as well make use of it.

Okay… where was I?

I’m unemployed, and although I’ve send several application letters and resumes to various companies (related to my line of interests and also to some that aren’t exactly my line of interest) I still haven’t receive any proper reply yet.

Dad has gone frustuated by my joblessness (ow… the word doesn’t sound right in English).

In other news, the last of my salary has been paid, but unfortunately I’ve already spent it in replacing my jeep’s windshield (refer to Saturday’s accident story).

Oh well.

Unemployed…

August 31st, 2006 by fraix

Here I am, being unemployed.

And you know one of the few things I hate in being unemployed?

Is to have no source of income (=cashless).

Sigh.

Well, these past few days I’ve been browsing the ‘Net, looking for job vacancies around here and there. Only found a few that interest me. But I guess I better give it a shot, try applying here and there. Who knows, perhaps I might get an interview call.

Anyway, here are some nice job search sites:

http://www.jobsdb.com
http://www.jobstreet.com

Well… at least those two come in mind.
Nice search features, personlized infos and stuff.

I turned 25 yesterday

June 18th, 2006 by fraix

From the Desktop of Fraix

Yesterday was my birthday.
I’ve turned 25.

Aside that, just to make things clear between me and you gentle reader, is that I’m back to Indonesia. For this time being.

Hmm…
I’ve cancelled my internship with CampHA because of personal (and
perhaps professional) reasons, but the bottom line is that I’m back to
Jakarta.

So far I’m still unemployed, but I’ve been doing some
bits of things… helping Sanny with her thesis, driving her around
here and there. I’m also going to assist my dear friend Melly for an
upcoming church retreat somewhere around Surabaya.

Well… here I am, being 25 years old, and still…

To
be honest with myself, I’ve lost a certain sense of direction and
purpose. For these past few years I’ve felt that I have this interest
and gift in understanding computer & video games, as well
media-related issues. For awhile I thought I would be doing something
related to them. I still want to have a job related to something that I
like, unlike my last stint.

I’m hoping to apply for job more related to my interests.

Current Affairs - April 12 2006

April 11th, 2006 by fraix

From the Laptop of Nathanael Fraix

OKAY… three months of no news from me isn’t quite what I expected.

Here’s a summary:
- I’ve already graduated, to be precise my graduation ceremony was on
March 11 2006, exactly 40 years since Supersemar (a historical event
that is related to Suharto’s reign in Indonesia).

- I’ve grown closer with Stephanie Elviana Kristanto,
a junior of mine from Psikologi Atma Jaya. For the past two years I’ve
somehow became her confidante, a role I’ve been honor to be selected.
We sat together during our graduation ceremony.

- I purchased the domain name inascifi.com and have registered my
Yahoo!ID with the email associated to said account. The future of
Ina_sci-fi and inascifi.com is still open to discussion, but I did
compose a certain introduction letter some time ago.

- A week before I departed for Singapore (March 23), I held a farewell
party at Hartz Chicken Mal Taman Anggrek. It was great time spent
together with my friends and loved ones. Among them were Rossy, Benedict Sulaiman, Yopi Y. Bachrie, Hans Suryawan, Stephanie E. Kristanto, Nana Namaskara and her boyfriend Herman, David Budy Parlan, Bertram (my cousin) and his girlfriend Rossa, Sanny and Willy.
I was so happy that so many could attend our lunch together. It was a
great chance for my friends to meet each other, and some of the
interactions were really humorous.

- The day before I left (March 30), I had another farewell party for my
relatives and closest friends. I asked for a Bible reading from Dad,
and he read me from the Book of Joshua chapter 1. There were also
several testimonials from Bertram, Melly ‘Kiplik’ Istanto, and Jeriel
Charis. There testimonials about me was so touching, and I never really
thought that Bertram would point out my sincerity and genuine care I
have for others. Jeriel also brought up our old past regarding Erin,
and I’m so glad that we could laugh together about it. It’s a funny
thing to note, that it was also on a Sunday of March 18 2000, did
Jeriel officially asked Erin Mutiara Naland to be his girlfriend. They
began their courtship on April 1 2000 (yep, on April Fool’s Day). Sanny
and I hope that their six year courtship isn’t just a six year old
prank.  Anyway, it was the blessings from my friends and parents that
helped strengthen my resolve to move and learn in Singapore.

- I’m in Singapore (refer to previous post) right now.

- Hmmm, last week (April 5) for the first time in my 18 years of
friendship with Erin, I went out with her… two of us together,
walking around in Plaza Singapura chatting and doing a bit catching up.
She was surely a sight for sore eyes. But to top things up, I also met
my old friend Lyla Charmaine Sulaiman. Imagine this: it’s been nearly seven years since we graduated from Smuk3,
and we haven’t met since. In fact, Lyla herself couldn’t remember when
was the last time we met, although I do try to maintain contact with
her through email and the occasionally phone call (and more recently,
chatting online through MSN Messenger service).

- It’s getting late, and I gotta wake up early tomorrow. Well… this is just a brief sum of my current affairs.

Ark Road

From the Laptop of NATHANAEL FRAIX

Oh dear… it’s been a long while since I’ve written anything on my
blog. Might as well sync this with my other blog as well my private
journal.

Alright, where should I start.

Hmm… I’m in Singapore right now.
Not just visiting, but more like… looking for a job. Working on an
internship. At the time being, I’m helping around a place called MOE Jalan Bahtera Adventure Centre. My job title would be Trainee/Assistant for the Adventure Centre Staff Manager, namely a Singaporean female name Jody Tan. I don’t know how old Jody is, but she about a few or several years older than me.

Jody is practically my boss, and I am to assist her in my best
capabilities to run this centre, or at least make things run smoother.
Story is, this centre belongs to the Singaporean Ministry of Education.
Recently, this place was outsourced to a consortium of CampHA (where
I’m currently interned) with ISS Facility. Since we’ve came over, the
place has been a real mess. Lots of defective equipment and problem
areas around the place, and I’ve been compiling a report of those
problems these past one week.

Oh yeah… I can’t say too much as my pass here is only for Social Visit for 30 days, which expires this April 19th.

Luckily, this Friday I’ll be going to Batam and fly home to Jakarta and
spend a couple of days back home. I miss Indonesia pretty much. I miss
Sanny so much.

Sanny Anita Tan… my beloved darling, my future wife (if GOD permits)… what will I be without her?

I love her so much.

In Singapore!

January 16th, 2006 by fraix

Here I am,
in a public internet kiosk,
surfing my way through the world wild web.

In case you’re wondering, I just graduated with satisfactory results. I’m in Singapore right now, running some errands for my dad, meeting some old friends, and trying to look for opportunities to intern in Singapore for 2-3 months.

Well, God was really kind to me, that I was very fortunate to encounter Pepita Holy Gunawan yesterday at GRII Singapore. It was quite a surprise, and I took her to meet Dad. When she learned about my plight, she offered me a position in an upcoming camp project she’s working on.

Peppie… it’s been a long time since I’ve written anything about her. It’s quite safe for me to state that I use to have some history with her, but I’m glad we’re still good friends.

I originally planned to stay here until Wednesday, but because of the camp and all I’ll have to extend my stay till Frieday or Saturday, and also alter my plane tickets to that date. Oh well. More things to do tomorrow.

I met Stephanus Elliot Lee this afternoon. We had lunch together, and a lot of catching up. I missed the chance to meet him when he came back to Indonesia last December. Glad to meet the old chap.

I spent about 4 hours in Suntec mall. Saw lots of stuffs, bought some food. Spent S$49.90 on X3: The Reunion (hope it’s worth it)… and despite it all, I feel so lonely. Lonely to be around places without friends.

I miss Sanny so much. She misses me too.

Miss her so much.

Sigh.

She’s my princess of my heart…

Phew! I’m officially granted the title of ‘psychology graduate’. My examination went well, and though I had a few bumps here and there, and lots of gaps with my thesis (it’s still incomplete), the reviewers have decided that I’ve done well and earned my psychology degree. Yipee!

Minutes before starting the exam, Sanny came all the way from Kota just to support me and pray for me. I really love her so much.

Went out with Matias later on. He awaited for my results during the exam.

Hmm… afterwards I went swimming at Hotel Sun Lake. Unexpectedly met two of my old high school friends: Andre and Ricky. I was later joined with Monic.

My parents are well pleased, and my heart is so joyful… filled with relief!

Never imagined the feeling of this relief would be so wonderful and relieving!

Here are a few sms I saved:

Hehe glad for ya

Sleepy.

Might be post-test traumatic disorder or something related.

Well… I’m glad I’m through!

What is it with mlzmndg?

December 16th, 2005 by fraix

It’s been a long while since I last talk with her. Much
longer since I’ve last met her. For years I considered her as a friend. A
confidant, someone I could chat with, share news and interests in music. Then
one day, everything changed. I don’t know if it was becuase of her busy life, her starting
carreer, or because she simply had a boyfriend.

On the last day of March, I invited her to come a youth club
meeting. Not only she declined my invitation, she firmly requested that I
should never, ever contact her again no matter the circumstances. No matter the
circumstances? I was surprised, and an hour later she called me again, just to
make her point clear. The particular reason is that I use to like her (a fact),
and now she has a boyfriend, and I already have a girlfriend, and for some
reason she is very much disturbed by me.

If she was disturbed by me since the beginning of our
friendship, or in the course of it, why did she never indicated it before?

Last November was her birthday, and I sent her a message. It
was a very simple message, sent on November 22:

I remember your birthday was this Monday, so I
just want to give you a happy 24th birthday!

Regards

I was hoping to at least mend some of our friendship.
Instead, I receieved a rather harsh message:

hey,did I called you before not to disturb
or contact me anymore??why didn’t
understand?r u nuts?eh,g dah bilang g
nga suka lo CONTACT GUE!g dah
ngomong baik2 waktu itu,jgn smpe g
ngomong keras.I CAN’t BE BOTHER!

PS;jgn sok inggris

For those who don’t understand Indonesia, I won’t spare the
effort to translate the meaning.

I just feel that I’ve really lost her as a friend.
